Album

No New York is a compilation album released in 1978 by record label Antilles under the curation of producer Brian Eno. Although it only contained songs by four different artists, it is considered by many to be the definitive single album documenting New York City's late-1970s no wave movement. Early in 1978, New York's Artists' Space hosted an underground rock festival with several local bands. The final two days of the show featured DNA and the Contortions on Friday, followed by Mars and Teenage. Artist: The Contortions, Teenage Jesus And The Jerks, Mars, . Album: No New York Released: November, 1978 Tracklist: 1. Various Artists. No New York. The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on , compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information. Soul Jazz provided the even more extensive and less disco-flavored New York Noise, 1979-1982 and last year No More Records' popped-up to offer the definitive 32-track DNA on DNA, which includes all of the DNA tracks from No New York. Ditto for Mars' The Complete Studio Recordings: NYC 1977-1978, out on G3GSpooky Sound in 2003. No Wave itself sprung up namelessly circa 1977 as a reaction to punk, new wave, and New York City itself. One of No Wave's more outspoken progenitors, Lydia Lunch famously dissed punk as no more than sped-up Chuck Berry riffs. No New York is ranked 6,448th in the overall chart, 1,067th in the 1970s, and 116th in the year 1978. This album is rated in the top 4 of all albums on . No Wave was a short-lived movement inspired by post-punk and jazz fusion that originated in New York in the late 70's and early 80's. It was a time when artists used avant-garde techniques and extreme aggression to fight back against popular music trends in the New Wave scene, which explains the name. It also started as a rebellion against how poorly the city was being treated at the time, as crime rates in the city soared during this period. I bought this album new a long time ago. My inner sleeve was also printed on the inside, but apparently at some point I peeled it apart so I could read the lyrics. I can see the glue marks on the sides. So I am going to concur with you and say that this was Brian Eno being arty.

My copy's inner sleeve is has the lyrics printed on the inside. I assumed that was Brian Eno being all conceptual but I guess it could be an error. Anyone else?
