amazing pressing for the price, sure it’s not an original copy, but for 20 bucks the sound quality is phenomenal.
horrible artwork, text is re-typed with generic arial font, looks way more bootleg than the bootleg itself. GREAT sound though.
nah, it was a different font. this reissue only has original front cover picture, the rest is all re-typeset. i hate mov for things like that.
The original used a generic font too, what are you on about? The reproduction of the actual cover image is nice quality as well.
I've become quite enamored with Music On Vinyl reissues at this point, and have been seeking them out. The MOV crew from Holland just flat-out knows what the hell they are doing as far as sound and pressing quality goes. This is one stellar example of a reissue done right (the other being their pressing of Morphine's Cure For Pain, possibly the best sounding record I own). Reproducing this gauzy, shimmery, loud-quiet-loud shoegaze music has to be really difficult to nail, and really easy to allow it to turn into sonic mud, but they absolutely nail it. The only thing I'd have done differently? Bring back the 1994 US mostly-black cover artwork that has a more appealing abstractness to it, befitting a 4AD release. The original cover art as printed (also used for other reissues of this), with just a boring old pic of the band, is just dull.
Sounds like they did a bang-up job with my copy. It has a slight warp, but is dead quiet other than some extremely light, and easily ignorable, crackle between songs. If you don't have $200-300+ to blow on an original copy, go for this!
Even if the source is digital (Which seems to be consensus), this is a fantastic reissue. For much cheaper than an original copy, this vinyl is dead quiet and sounds great to my ears. Not to mention it comes in a heavy jacket with nice printing and poly-lined inner sleeves, highly recommended.
just music my copy play great on my system.a quiet vinyl no surface noise or pops or craks.Nagaoka MP300Pioneer PL570GrahamSlee Reflew...
5 years on and I'm still mesmerised by the sound quality of this reissue. I have a few original Slowdive records and they sound very similar. How they managed to replicate such a warm, soft sound from digital files I'll never know, but this is the first reissue of any record ever I remember being wow'ed by. Don't hesitate to buy this if you can't source an original.I've had this record for 5 years, and when I first got it I used to play it at least daily, if not up to 3 times a day. Although I play it less now, it is still silent between tracks and throughout, with no deterioration in the audio at all despite how much I used to play it (on a rubbish set up with a blunt stylus when I first started collecting). Although this LP is considerably more enjoyable on a decent set up with a fresh stylus, the quality wasn't lost on lesser expensive turntables, and I can safely say that the overall quality (both audio-wise and general wear and tear with age) of Music On Vinyl reissues is amazing - especially for the price. This sits proudly up there with my original pressing of Loveless and other Slowdive originals, and I feel no inclination to replace it anytime soon.
My copy has the side A label on both sides. Anyone else have this problem? Not really a big deal though, just have to look closely at what's etched on the vinyl.I think the sound quality is great, too.
Getting some pops on side b starting with When the Sun Hits and keeps on going until about the middle of Dagger. Still an amazing album though.
I don't care if this album was pressed from a digital source or whatever, it sounds gorgeous. It has great sound quality and dynamics, and it is dead silent even after 20+ spins and no wipe downs. I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for any releases of albums that I like pressed by MOV.
i bet if people knew that this was cut from dig files they'd all stfu about how good MOV is, they confirmed it themselves, "cut from 96 KHz, 24 bit"...
Who cares? 96KHz/24-bit is way better quality than vinyl is capable of, so it's a great source for a qualified mastering engineer! Everything I've gotten from MOV has been very high quality.
where else can you get these albums in 24/96 though?
This version (MOVLP202) has good reviews, but I was hoping it would have deeper sound and it still sounds kind of light and tinny to me. Not what I was expecting, and a bit disappointing. I would love to hear the original pressing someday to compare!
Does anyone know if it ends in a locked groove?
I can also confirm - the copy I have doesn't either.
it doesn't
This is definitely one of the best reissues I've heard. Well worth the money.Shame they haven't done the reissue of "Loveless."
Great sounding, quietly pressed reissue! Noticeably better than the cd. It is said to be cut from a hi-rez digital source.
Music On Vinyl is no joke, don't sleep on their represses. This sounds great and the whole package is quality, front to back.
Totally Agreed. I recently got the Music On Vinyl repress after only having the 2LP Bootleg. The Music On Vinyl pressing is so much better it is not funny. Felt like hearing the record for the first time. Totally worth it.
Yellow Judge
As far as I know this is a legit reissue.
does anyone know if this is another bootleg straight from cd version?
I emailed Music on Vinyl and they told me the source for this reissue is digital, but then, maybe so was the original? Can anyone who owns this reissue comment on its sound in comparison to the CD or the original vinyl?
Yeah, Music on Vinyl is a legit label. From their website: "As for our sources; We are provided with the best possible (analogue) masters available. On top of that, our sound engineer has over 35 years of experience in cutting and mastering records for (major) labels."http://www.musiconvinyl.com/about
I bought this LP after finding it in the bargain bin of a Virgin Megastore for 2.99 in 1994. The band were deeply unfashionable at the time as grunge and britpop displaced shoegaze. It's a classic obviously.
I’m willing to spend £200-£300 on an original UK pressing, any sellers interested?
Are you still interested in selling your copy of this album?
i might be willing to part with mine. cover vg+/ex-, Record ex.
To my mind and heart, one of the best albums ever made. You can listen to thousands of complete albums that will never reach this level emotional power and depth. Thank you Slowdive, and whatever muses possessed you when you made this. Moussaka Chaos is better than the original (Souvlaki Space Station), but otherwise, it's a perfect record.
The name of that muse, my friend, is Brian Eno.
Any word on whether Dead Oceans will reissue this or the other early albums in light of the new one?
I paid $300 to got this record. yes, it's a lots, but this is greater than ever!!
Yes but you could buy a reissue from Music On Vinyl which is 15 times cheaper and sounds fantastic. Unless you are a 1st pressings collector...Music on Vinyl reissue:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZJrC8X91io
This is the absolute Crown Jewell of the 90's!
I love it more than loveless. Loveless is a pure shoegaze record and very aggressive, but souvlaki is a wonderful blend of shoegaze, dream pop, space rock plus brian eno. You can listen to it all day and never get tired
No offense intented, but around 21 comments, none of them praising this LP? Guess I will give it a try then.I've recently started "gazing my shoes". I do not know much about this genre, but when you think about it, it does not really matter in the end. This 40 minute long piece will completely catch you offguard. Ambient-esque soundscape, chilled guitars, spacey moments (spacegaze anyone?), vocals you can't really catch, Brian Eno, the Ambient God appearing in several tunes...masterpiece from the first second till the last. You don't have to even think about skipping a song or two, it's 100% complete and flawless.5/5, this release is something colossal, and Slowdive seems pretty much peerless to my novice shoegaze ears.

Matrix on original is as follows:BC2470
Gah, sorry - somehow missed the reply from 11/26 which rendered mine redundant!
Comment below I find suspicious. You're saying a counterfeit version almost two decades later sounds better than the original? Bullshit.
Yeah mate, I'm with you there. I remember when the bootleg version came out, guess what the name of the seller who was selling them here and on eBay... yep, Mr. Black...
