Spheres is the fourth album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence, released in 1993. It was their final album before a 14-year hiatus from 1994 to 2008. On this album, the band experimented with a more progressive sound, utilizing guitar synthesizers as well as some jazz influences. Decibel rated it positively, appreciating the ear-candy at every turn and the superb bass frets. However, the quality of the drums work by Marco Foddis was criticised as unsuited to the range of styles present in the. On Spheres, Patrick Mameli's vocals were still 100 percent melody-free and crusty in the extreme, but bona fide death metal guitar crunch was significantly scaled back to make way for pervasive synthesizers, spinning spidery strands throughout the album's best songs - mu. Spheres is an album not to be taken for granted. It's incorporation of jazz's technical elements as well as the classic heavy guitars adroitly join together to create the perfect fusion of jazz and Metal. It's use if synthesizers are a welcome experimental change to the genre.
To be said simply, this album is a definite must-have for the experimental Metal fan
