Fantastic sounding release! I have to say the remastering done on this album is pretty good. The instruments have more room to breathe, but the mix still retains that moody and claustrophobic atmosphere of the original. I don't know, I think you can hear the pain of losing Cliff on the performances.
This pressing is freaking fantastic. Its a little quiet but played at high volume it kicks ass. Lar's drums sound like he is playing the kit right in front of you. If you are a Metallica fan run dont walk and get this pressing you wont be disappointed.
I couldn't be happier with the sound of this record. I never cared about the debate regarding the lack of bass. It's obviously how they wanted the record to sound at the time and this reissue emphasizes that point. It is more apparent than the original but not in any way distracting. The biggest noticeable difference for me is the drum sound. This pressing is great and sounds great. Couldn't be happier.
Bought this on cassette when it first came out, later got an '88 2xLP, then the CD (not sure what exact versions of the latter two as I sold or traded both years ago). This reissue I picked up just the other day. I'm on my third listen now on my home system. Throughout the whole frequency spectrum the clarity is astounding, even at high volume. The low-end doesn't bog up at all here, and the highs remain well-defined towards the end of each side. Surface noise = minimal-to-negligible. Hands-down the best-sounding version I've ever experienced since the aforementioned '88 2xLP. Any other version I've heard only sounded good on headphones, and passable at best. Also the pressing is also centered dead-on, and the plastic-lined inner sleeves are a nice practical touch, unlike the original printed paper-only inners from '98. The quality control here is 100% ACE.The MP3 downloads via the enclosed download card are quite alright as well, but the imminent "car test" for those will tell for sure....
This is absolutely perfect, the way things are supposed to be done. I just love it!Play if f$%*&# loud!
Amazing album, amazing remaster. little bit quiet, but all you have to do is turn it up and this record sounds incredible. seriously, I cannot put into words how good this remaster is.
Agree being on the quiet side, but that's not always a bad thing.
The first copy I purchased came with 2 copies of disc 2 and no disc 1.
Finally we have the "...And Justice for All" remastered.. Before that remastered exist many previous remasters of the album but here you can say this is the most official remastered from them.. The true job.. So your expectations must be big here. So for me this remastered is very important because the other three previous albums remasters was very good in my opinion and wish the same result..Anyway i decide to listen first the LP version of the album and after the CD. This pressing has nothing bad. It sound great and clean. I can say is great pressing. But i expecting better things about the sound.. Comparing with the 2018 LP reissue that has the original sound, you can feel this is a low profile release. It seems the sound is not so strong and has less explosion. Also the drums seems more weak than the 2018 LP reissue or any kind other album version that i own (except the 2008 LP version from universal that is the worse release in my entire collection).. Perhaps the reason for that is the mastering here. It sound weak for me.. General I'm not so happy with this remastered album and expecting something better from that LP version. And in the end get the opposite. The sound seems more weak and from the remastered CD and that is very bad. All these years when i listen this album from any kind format, the sound was capable to break my roam. But i cant say the same here.Overall prefer the original album than this version.. Here i feel they cut some important stuff from the sound.. Is like missing some parts from the album. They clean the sound and also they delete the explosion, the atmosphere and the power.. And also the album stops sound like 80s.. And i suggest you to get soon the reissue LP 2018 from "Blackened". There you can get the true power of the album..Anyway this pressing is very clean and good but the quality is bad.. I hope you find it more interesting than me..
The pressing is certainly better than the 2014, which I gave one spin to and returned it for 60% credit because it was just...terrible. Bottom line for me, this record alone, out of the 700 or so that I own made me realize I need better speakers. I listen to almost no metal, ever, what I do listen to normally sounds glorious but this record really flexed my nice book shelf speakers to all they could handle, at a disappointingly low volume. The loudspeakers did better at handling the load but not by much. I really really wanted to turn this up until the house was shaking but the drums in particular...my setup just couldn't handle it. I wish it was a little thinner and louder but an absolute must have record in the collection.
I had the exact same experience with my set up. Pushed my speakers to the limit.
The drums on side D sound like Lars is in my living room. Outstanding remaster and pressing. I've never heard the first pressing but it can't be much better than this.
I bought the Justice Deluxe Box set. Everything in my set was beautiful condition except Lp #2 of the Justice album has a huge scratch through To Live Is To Die (first track on side 4). I have tried to compare everything so i could just buy the single 2LP to replace it inside my box set. Aside from the barcode on the back of the stand alone 2LP is there any differences between the 2LP that comes inside the Boxset VS. the 2LP you buy by itself???
Does anyone know how this release compares to the other Blackened edition from 2018? I mean this one: https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/11502880?ev=rb
I have this one, and really like the sound. It's full of distortion, but in a way that suits the music. Far more interesting listen than my original CD.
This is much more like it. The 2014 pressing sounds like it was cut using a rusty safety pin. This one is leaps and bounds above that. No, it's not been remixed, so the bass is still mostly M.I.A., although in some of the quieter passages (particularly in "To Live Is to Die"), they seem to have at least turned the low end up on the original mix. My copy came with a download card, and the digital files have also been remastered, so it's absolutely worth it to get better sound in two different formats.
Wow, certainly the most satisfying listen to this album I've ever had. Like hearing it for the first time again. Going to echo most other reviewers-- no remixing, bass guitar still minimized, but the effort made to perfectly articulate the way they meant this album to sound is a thundering success. The biggest difference from past versions I have heard (all digital, mind you) is in Lars' drums-- the kick drums no longer sound like a baby smacking a stack of paper. Here, they are pulverizing (as they should be, damn it!), and the snares have more pop too. The drums form the low-end backbone for everything else in the absence of the nonexistent bass guitar, and actually, it's enough. The mastering remains very low, so you'll have to turn it up louder than normal, but thankfully it's quiet vinyl.
To my ears, this has a thicker, more bottom-heavy sound than the 2014 release, which was very thin and tinny. I'm not sure the bass is more prominent, but I think the whole balance is more pleasing as a listen. I am no longer distracted by how weak it sounds, and can instead feel some true power. The sound, in general, is superb.
I got both the original pressing (Elektra) and this pressing, the Elektra original is louder but this sounds thicker (somewhat), there is still no bass but ever since this album (in my opinion) has my the most songs that are on my top ten list (Blackened, One, and Dyer's Eve), I had to get a new pressing, this is a great one! Get this if you can't afford an original or if you do have an original but is in mediocre-bad condition. This pressing is actually one of the best vinyl pressings that I've had in my record collecting hobby.
Prince Persie
Great remaster! As mc959 said the drums are very crisp and guitars are up front. Bass is still lost in the mix but you can hear it better in this pressing. This is the version to get of this album now for sure. On the song and justice for all, the beginning the toms are sound so smooth I was blown away. Actually all the tracks have clear deep toms and bass drum touch ups. I honestly can say this is one of my best sounding albums I own.
Snake Rocking
After asking about how this compared to the 2014 version, I went ahead and picked it up and did a comparison listen. This new release sounds great. At low volume, I didn't hear much difference from the 2014 release, but I could hear it at louder volume. The bass drum hits a little harder and cleaner, the guitars are more pronounced, and I think there is better stereo separation. Still can't hear that bass guitar, but I guess that's the way it will always be. The record itself is very clean, no pops or surface noise. Also note that this comes with a digital download card too.EDIT: I just redeemed my digital download, and it looks like I got all the content from the box set and not just the album! I only purchased the regular album, so that was a very nice bonus. Not sure if mistake or intentional, but I'll take it!
Sadly my digital copy was just for the remastered album so I think it was a error on their part mixing the codes up in the standard album and the box set.
i was just gonna point out the same thing about the download code! i was about to download some of the discs anyway so this is sure is a plus!!!
Oh no! Lol, sounds like they mixed them up in packaging then.
Happened to me as well. I saw someone who bought a box set get a code for only the core 9 track album.
Anyone have any comments on how this sounds compared to the 2014 reissue?
just one girl
I own the 2018 reissue from Blackened and i have to say sound much better than the new LP remastered at the same year. The drums on the reissue sound chaotic and i can feel the analogue sound better than hear. The sound is more realistic. But both pressings are good. They are very clean and quiet. But for the sound i prefer the reissue. So in my opinion not worth this new LP. Go for the original or the reissue. The strange thing is,the remastered CD blows my mind. Sound completly different than the LP. More powerful more aggressive and i can feel the upgrade. When i put it destroy my roam. So i feel like the "Master of puppets" the CDs are better than the LPs on the sound part. It seems the LP has digital sound or i dont know. That is my personal opinion. I have own the box and i listen the both version of the album.. If you have the money and interesting only for vinyl buy this. Is ok but buy and the reissue to see the difference...
I own the original in NM conditions and this new reissue compares VERY well to the original US DMM pressing.
I was wondering the same thing. I had to get the 45 rpm set cause the Blackened pressing sounded terrible. May have to get the remastered then.
Blows the 2014 out of the water. The 2014 pressing is complete garbage in my opinion. Unless you want to fork out $75+ for an original, this new pressing is the one to get. I actually think this new pressing sounds better than the original
