A great dubstep take on an excellent piece of music by Klaus Weiss- Time Signals..
Pameala
Never take the piss out of Dubstep or any other form of music until you know....I mean really know! P.s. when you hear Klaus Weiss- Time Signals you will either listen and think "Nah thats shit!" or.....think!..Thinking is bad! You'll regret it. Don't ever do it! Peas and rize! ;) A Horrid Education?
Gerceytone
cannot get enough of this one. love checking it on different rigs. the bass is magic.heard this was made on Reason, anyone know if that true?
Auau
I remember reading at the time that he discovered Spectrasonics vsts when making these later tracks, so he must have been on something with vst capabilities. I remember coming across the bass patch he used for Education on Atmosphere, he didn't change it much from the patch but it's the melody and timing that always makes the track.
Gozragore
Coki has always used Reason. Mala made the switch to Logic some years ago but I don't know if that was before or after he made Education
Jeyn
Mala has said in interviews that he uses Reason so I think you're right. Duno about the coki tune though
Ramsey`s
It's just mind boggling how they were able to make these tunes... I don't think the scene has even caught up to the level yet.
Anyshoun
Agree man - this is some next level shit - big up DMZ and all Croydon crown hill massive - Peace
Unde
best thing i have read on discogs. hats off to you, sir

Had to come back five years later ..............This is absolute DMZ heat

OK, regardless of which you listen to, you're going to experience thrilling weight!Education is techno-like (guess we could call it something like mix between dub techno and future garage), but absolutely crafted for soundsytem. Pulsing rhythm and a beautiful, joyful and eerie synth. Horrid Henry... mad tunage! Such a skanker, but still very much dubstep. This is probably one of the best releases on DMZ, hands down. both of the Mystikz are brilliant artists. They provide amazing work, yet it can also be felt they had fun making it!

I bought this track for Education (because it's hands down my favourite dubstep tune ever), not so much for Horrid Henry, but after a few times of playing the AA-side, I found myself really liking the tune. There's just something about it that makes it so mysterious...like the intro of the track is already telling you shit's gonna go down real hard, like he's having a laugh with how clueless people will be who never heard it before. But when it drops it always takes a little while for me to process what I'm really hearing. Same thing with Goblin, you hear such an aggressive sound consisting of so many layers that you're first thought is that its a kind of unpleasant sound, but when I keep listening I find the structure of the track something very complex, because Coki plays with these rough sounds but they still sound raw and oldschool.
huckman
That's a great description of Horrid Henry. I still kind of dislike the intro but you're right in that the cool thing about it is if you've never heard it before you'll have no idea what the bulk of the tune will sound like based on the intro alone.

education is a killer riddum! The simple yet evolving lead reminds me of something out Blade Runner. Mala is the don!
Nilador
'Blade Runner' yes! that what I was thinking too : )
Skrimpak
education is the one. mala the wizard

Re-Press is on the way, released Monday 17.06.2013!! Don't be paying silly money....

Im clearly biased here, as i have only heard both tracks as digitals on my ipod, and only heard 'Horrid Henry' live. Mala played it at Cielo in NY last year. It TORE the dance. Completely annihilated the club. 'Horrid Henry' is just on another level, it's a tear-out track, high frequencies, almost like some Brostep stuff, however it's done with such class, such rawness, the POWER of it, just the best man, pure genius on Coki's part, and just like Coki's label, don't get it twisted (pun intended), this track has LOTS of sub bass, thundering subs. 'Education' on the other hand, it's so plain, the synth line is boring, there's no real vibe on it. Not the best Mala track in my opinion.

Ocho710 This is sound system music, meant to be played on a proper bass rig... earphones don't even breach the level of depth this track can invoke. llennnn16 is actually DJ Wanka starting shit on Discogs. "This is sound system music" is the biggest fairy tale lie dubstep elitist believe. you dont need a "proper bass rig" to know if a track is ultimately good or not. what, you think Mala makes all his music with a stack of funktion ones in his studio? jesus christ i thought you people had more common sense.

The track still sucks. I don't like it. That my opinion. That doesn't make me a wasteman. You being intolerant of other people's opinion's on the other hand does make you insensitive and a total dick. even more so cuz you decided to still go at this years after the argument was over.

llennnn16 I'm gonna put it to you real simple. First of, a shit tune is a shit tune no matter what speakers you run it from. You really think amplifying it a 100 times is gonna make a mediocre track become hot all the sudden? and you're calling me clueless?! From a physical point, yes you'll feel the vibrations, but that subwoofer is not going to ultimately change what you can hear from a good pair of headphones. As a matter of fact, you'll hear a track clearer through headphones than if you were going out to hear it on a system. The reverberation from the dynamics of the room + your location from the speakers would cheat you from hearing the track correctly. Second, you're implying that i said 'Education' has no sub bass or sub bass with weight as much as 'Horrid Henry''s. Never in my review did i say that or imply that. I said the track was plain, boring and lacking vibe.Third, get off your high horse, talking about stolen downloads. I'm more than positive that you're no saint on that department. Just came across this again some years later. You're such a wasteman it's unreal haha hope you've mellowed out a bit over the years

Ha wow calm down. The ole cliche of wait till you hear it on a rig is made for this situation.Mala played education at the first ever system, and it went from my least favourite mala tune ever, to top 10 greatest moments of my life. The bass in this tune, is UNBELEIVABLE. Straight up, hats off, unbeleivable. By FAR the heaviest hitting tune of the night. Eye ball shaking, gut wrenching chaos. Come back and apologise for your comments when youve heard this tune in the only context its designed for. Not some stolen download being played through an ipods soundcard...EPIC lol @ "this track has lots of sub bass" followed by "education on the other hand"haha, clueless
FEISKO
Ok, i'll tell you more. I don't own this record because it would be a crime to pay ANY amount of money for that awful and atrocious sorry excuse of a track you call a "masterpiece" that is 'Education'. If i were to get it for free, i would use sandpaper and rub out the grooves!!! I don't need to own the record to tell that this track is a total waste of time. Mala is a genius, but you wouldn't be able to tell from that tiresome and uninspiring track.
MisterMax
lolwut? Education is a masterpiece. Probably in my top 3 Mala tracks. P.S. Tell me more about how you don't own this record but have a digital copy on your iPod...

This is back on sale at redeyerecords.co.uk for £5.49. Just a heads up before anyone pays £20+ for it on here!

Education is a phenomenal piece of music. That synth line and creeping bass are just incredible. Horrid Henry is decent. Standard Coki grinding but Education is something really special.

@ renzelkouten - You are absolutely correct on so many levels "Education" is a superb track in so many ways. one of my favorites of 2010. the synth line is just amazing. buy on sight

A side Education is a right Mala gem, and worth picking up for any fans out there in case it becomes sought after in the future. Its a melancholic sort of mood, stangely eerie synth noises that are between uplifting and foreboding and remind me of classic Detroit-ish Carl Craig tracks. A well used little rastary voice sample features in true Mala fashion and a weird almost acid house bassline that is the main feature of an extended breakdown shows Mala is unafraid of mixing it up in what is a top mellow dubstep track. Reccomended. B side Horrid Henry i've not managed to listen to yet as its quite an intense affair, I think I must be getting a bit old!
Ygglune
Excellent, so great stuff! Dubstep in perfect form. Coki track Horrid Henry is the best thing i've heard for a long time!
