Heavy Rocks, also known as Heavy Rocks 2 or Heavy Rocks 2011, is the sixteenth studio album by the Japanese experimental band Boris. The album was released on May 24, 2011, through the label Sargent House. Its original release date was April 26, but this was pushed back. This album has the same name and cover style as their album released in 2002 called Heavy Rocks, although the cover is purple instead of orange. The band brought back these elements because they seek to redefine 'heavy' music in a. Heavy Rocks carries the same title as a 2002 Boris album, but it's not the same record. While the earlier one bore the extreme, blasted, dissonant crunch and crackle that helped to establish their sonic identity, the 2011 set, while undeniably heavy, is also unapologetically more accessible, and straight-up embraces glam places. It is less formulaic than 2008's Smile, but it shows that there isn't any going back to the primitivism of earlier albums, either. This is also born out by Attention Please, with its generally slinkier, more atmospheric textures and Wata's lead voc. Heavy Rocks. Type: Full-length. The band's most stoner sounding album, with a lot of punk-ish parts, except crushingly distorted and heavy due to the massive low-end. Title transliteration, translation: 4. Wallride 8. Koei 9. Do not pay $60+ for this CD. You can get it cheaper on Amazon.jp used or sites like Suruga-ya might stock it once in a while. I got a used copy for 3000 Yen/30-ish USD recently WITH the OBI.
When will this be re-released on CD? This album is amazing but the prices are ridiculous. I'm not paying 30 bucks for a CD.
They may never re issue it because I'm pretty sure the band doesn't own the masters.
no clue why people are selling it here for $30 when Inoxia did a reissue for $9 on their official website
it is not $9 - its $22 before shipping from japan.
I can't for the life of me understand why Heavy Rocks (v1.0) and Flood STILL haven't been issued on vinyl. They've been fan favorites for well over a decade, and if there's one thing Boris fans can be counted on to do, it's shell out for vinyl. No time like the present! The band's erratic prolificacy in the years since Smile has alienated many longtime followers. I imagine that a couple nice round reminders of Takeshi, Wata & Atsuo at their best would bring quite a few of them (us) back into the fold...
I remember reading recently that the label that they put Flood out on still has the rights to the album, and wants an insane amount of money for Boris (or their current label) to acquire the rights. I forgot where it was that I read that, and it could very well have been speculation or rumor... but seems very likely, because Flood is easily one of their top albums in terms of love from music fans in general. I'm sure Heavy Rocks must be in the same dilemma... but that one I'm not sure about.
definitely my favorite boris album by a long shot. just doesn't get old. solid from beginning to end.
This is, without a doubt, their most smokin' rock record they have made.
I'd love to get a vinyl release of this album. I'd be tempted to finance it myself if possible.
Hey now. At least use WAVs ripped from the CD! :P
Me TOO! I even thought of getting Wav files of the youtube video of the album and make a lathe cut on my own just for me! I MUST have that one on vinyl!
There HAS to be something screwy with rights. It's their only release on Quattro/UK Discs – maybe that's for a reason? (Same deal with Flood & MIDI Creative.)
Same here!
I'd love to see a vinyl release of this album, as well. Hell, I don't understand why they re-release Sun Baked Snow... on double vinyl but NOT Heavy Rocks!
